Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to invite you to the STP 45th Annual Symposium: The Pulse of Progress: Advancing Knowledge on Cardiovascular Toxicity, taking place June 21–24, 2026, at Paradise Point in San Diego, California. This year’s symposium is designed to foster cross-disciplinary learning and forward-thinking dialogue through a high-impact scientific program with broad relevance. Attendees will also benefit from opportunities for collaboration and professional development throughout the meeting.
Scientific Co-Chairs Drs. Rebecca Kohnken (AbbVie), Brian Berridge (B2 Pathology Solutions, LLC.), and Michael Boyle (Immunome), together with the 2026 Scientific Program Planning Committee, have meticulously curated an exceptional week of sessions to highlight translational research, integrated safety assessment, and innovative new approach methods (NAMs) in cardiovascular toxicity arising from drug-induced and environmental exposures. We are honored to welcome Dr. Joseph Wu of the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute as our Keynote Speaker. His expertise in human-derived modeling systems will set the stage for sessions exploring cutting-edge technologies, emerging methodologies, and recent regulatory developments that continue to shape our profession.
The scientific program features sessions on clinical translation of cardiovascular safety liabilities, integrated safety assessment in partnership with safety pharmacology colleagues, regulatory advances, biomarker strategies, non-traditional model systems, and the expanding applications of digital pathology and AI in predicting cardiotoxicity. These sessions are complemented by poster presentations, a continuing education course, and student mentorship opportunities.
I encourage you to visit the Annual Symposium website to review the preliminary program and to reserve your accommodations at the Paradise Point in San Diego as early as possible to ensure availability and take advantage of the negotiated rates for the convenience of all our attendees. Booking within the official room block helps STP secure the appropriate meeting space for the symposium while keeping registration rates low. Don’t forget to register by April 30 to take advantage of the Early Bird Rate!
The symposium will kick off on Sunday morning with the (STP) Satellite Symposium, followed by a continuing education course titled "Beyond the Dipstick: Urinalysis as a Tool for In-Depth Assessment of the Renal Structure and Function." This course will introduce practical strategies to enhance the quality and interpretive power of routine urinalysis and highlights additional tools that provide deeper insights into renal function and integrity. In addition to the in-person CE course, two virtual courses will be offered in August and September. Please visit the Continuing Education webpage for additional details. On Tuesday afternoon, we invite you to join us for a re-imagined CDOC Tuesday, focused specifically on career development.
Our exhibitors are an important part of the STP community, and we encourage you to visit them in the Exhibit Hall, which opens on Sunday, June 21, at 5:30 PM. The Exhibit Hall will also host our Welcome Reception from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM that evening.
Sunny San Diego offers miles of beaches, scenic coastal trails, vibrant neighborhoods, and world-class cultural attractions. Consider extending your stay to explore Balboa Park, enjoy the shoreline, or discover new dining favorites. Additional information is available on the About San Diego - STP 45th Annual Symposium webpage. There’s plenty to make your stay memorable.
Until then, I look forward to seeing you in San Diego for an engaging and forward-looking symposium at the forefront of cardiovascular toxicology!
Sincerely,
Jonathan A. Werner, DVM, PhD, DACVP, FIATP STP President, 2025-2026
