Celebrating Women’s History Month

In honor of Women’s History Month, the STP would like to celebrate some of the great women in our Society’s history.  Our women leaders inspire us every day with their strength and perseverance, paving the way toward a bright future.  Throughout the month of March, we will share inspiring words from some of our women presidents: past, present, and future.

Dr. Rani Sellers

Current President of STP (2021-22)

“Having grown up through the 1970s and 1980s, I did feel as if I had to prove that I was as good as the ‘boys’. Along the way, I had mentors, both women and men, that supported and encouraged me. I see it as my role to do the same for those that come after me. To me, a leader should give opportunities to others to grow and shine - and then shed light on those accomplishments for all to see.”

Dr. Anne Ryan

Past President of STP (2014-15)

“Early in my career (mid- to late-80's) I was often selected for veterinary pathology committees as part of efforts to be ‘gender and geographic inclusive’. While I could have viewed it as a token effort, I got some great advice from a mentor: ‘Take every opportunity you are offered, regardless of the reason for the selection-it will give you the forum to show them what you are capable of, not just who you are.’ In other words, you can't have influence if you don't have a seat at the table...no matter the reason, if you are offered an opportunity, you should take it- it is always an opportunity to learn-and to teach!”

Stay tuned for more women leader quotes in the near future...
